On October 27, 1838, Missouri governor Lilburn W. Boggs signed Executive Order 44, which enforced the removal of more than 10,000 Mormons from Missouri. During the next year, most of the Mormons walked east across Missouri and crossed the Mississippi River to Quincy, Illinois. The response of the nearly 1,800 citizens of Quincy was so kind and generous that it became known as the Quincy Miracle. In 2002, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints erected a marker in Quincy to express gratitude for the aid given to the destitute people so long ago. These seven essays use primary sources to discuss the history behind the incident, and the effects of it that are still felt today. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
