A very short easy to read book about a boy with selective mutism. On a day when he is rushing up the mountain to school, to hopefully win the $5000 prize to help his mother quit her back breaking job, he witnesses a car accident. The van has skidded off the road and into the bushes and the driver is dead, but the other passenger, a dog appears to be shaken up. When the dog runs away, the boy follows it into the bush and witnesses some bizarre behaviour from it, when he opens his mouth to speak.
Lovely ending. The death of the driver and the bullying of the main character means this possibly 3-4 novel needs to be read by older readers. ( )
