( ) I wanted something easy to read, this was just the book. It was entertaining and deeper than I expected. The characters neurodifferences were intriguing and relatable. Lily expresses her frustration at the world and her brain, "Everyone else gets this. Why don't you?" (p.290). My husband often gets treated like he is stupid because it takes him longer to understand things, Lily expresses her internal struggles with this and asking for help as well. Lily is treated differently because her brain works differently, but so many people think it is a matter of trying harder - if she tried to not skip class or tried to listen she could, but she can't - this is reality to so many people, I like that it was expressed so well in this book. Although this book wasn't perfect, I really felt the emotional scenes, her relationship with her sister, feeling overwhelmed with life and a relationship. I do think there were too many references to outside works, classical novel, although some like Frankenstein were integrated well. On the surface, this is a love story between Abelard and Lily. Neither one of them is "neuro-typical". Lily has ADHD and tends to leap before she thinks. Abelard is on the autism spectrum and tends to think and think before he leaps. What I liked about the book was the real debate about if there is anything wrong with being a-typical. Lily has an option to have surgery that might help her ADHD impulse control. But will that change who she is? Is she broken? I won't spoil who thinks what, or how it ends, but it will really challenge the way you think if you let it. The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily by Laura Creedle I randomly picked a blue cover book and The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily was the luck book. This is a five star from me, I was surprised by this book, it references another book called The Love Letters of Abelard and Heloise, a tragic love story. Lily has dyslexia and ADH, her brain functions faster than her understanding and she has a tendency to destroy things and Abelard has autism his brain functions slower and methodical with actions that are very calculated and his passion is to fix things. When these two meet it seems to bring both on a plan of normal speed. This book features a series of test messages in the same line as the quotes from Abelard and Heloise, which uncannily both have read. The story is the relationship that evolves. The trial and tribulations of high school and how two young people handle their growing attractions for each other.

HTML: When Lily Michaels-Ryan ditches her ADHD meds and lands in detention with Abelard, she's intriguedâ??he seems thirty seconds behind, while she feels thirty seconds ahead. It doesn't hurt that he's brilliant and beautiful. When Abelard posts a quote from The Letters of Abelard and Heloise online, their mutual affinity for ancient love letters connects them. The two fall for each other. Hard. But is it enough to bridge their differences in person? This hilarious, heartbreaking story of human connection between two neurodivergent teens is perfect for fans of Eleanor and Park and creates characters that will stay with you long after you finish reading.
