The Dictionary for Theological Interpretation of the Bible is a reference tool that introduces readers to key names, theories, and concepts in the field of biblical interpretation. It discusses these approaches and evaluates their helpfulness in enabling Christians to hear what God is saying to the church through Scripture. The contributors come from a variety of backgrounds, and the dictionary covers a broad range of topics. --From publisher's description.… (más)
The compilers and contributors seek to enter "the ugly ditch" between exegesis and theology by pursuing a non-doctrinal approach to scripture with the goal of seeking God. Each book of the Bible is explored by Historical Interpretations, Message, Canonical context, and Theology. Various schools of interpretation are characterized and key terms, both technical and theological, are defined.
This excellent new work updates the research on several other Bible Dictionaries. Everything is viewed from a theological perspective, leaving linguistic and cultural details to others to illucdate. ( )
Pastors, theologians, teachers, students, and others interested in "helping to promote the knowledge of what God has done in Israel in Jesus Christ for the good of the world" (p. 24) will find this a valuable addition to their library.

This work is a welcome addition to the world of biblical and theological reference. In a realm where biblical study and theological study are often done in isolation from each other or in simplistic proof-texting, this work will prove to be a valuable resource. This reviewer recommends it highly.
