I enjoyed this story. Asrael is different from the usual hero in Regencies. While he may hold the title, he is unconcerned about it. He makes sure that what must be done is done but he is not in the inner circle of government. He has some unusual house guests at his different estates and homes. He does not care what people think of him. He is intrigued by Serena. As Serena searches for the truth about her parents' pasts she is more drawn to Asrael. She is determined and persistent which I love about her.
At times the story feels more modern day than historical because of how things are stated, Serena's freedom, and Asrael's rejection of what society deemed proper for a titled gentleman. I like that because the characters feel real to me, not like stilted caricatures of the times. I like how the story touches on Ms. Foley's Inferno Club series. It seems a part of that series as well as the Moonlight Square series ( )
