This is a great book about the coming of spring. It shows and tells about the transition of the season from winter. Animals and plants alike emerge to the coming of the spring season. ( )

This nonfiction picture book details the coming of spring in text and photographs. The photographs are gorgeous and draw the eye in immediately; they feature close-ups of flower buds, blades of grass, etc. as well as wider shots of children playing outside. The children featured in the photographs are a diverse bunch in term of ages, races, and abilities. The text describes scientific facts about spring (pollination, longer days, animal young being born, etc.) in easy-to-understand language. Some of the words (e.g. "palette") are a little more advanced for the youngest of readers, but otherwise this is pretty accessible for beginning readers. This is a solid choice for preschool or elementary classrooms for readalouds or free reading choices. ( )
