I was annnnnoyed through the first part of this book mainly because the dialogue was difficult to follow. Once I was able to grab ahold of the rhythm of it, the book was great! ( )

I loved this book! The characters were hilarious, but it was also very romantic. And to anyone who was wondering about Susannah and Magnus who were mentioned multiple times, it you check the authors website, she has a mini story about them and their first meeting. ( )

To save her deaf sister from being sent to marry a Scottish barbarian, the heroine offers to take her place. Traveling to a strange land with people with strange customs the heroine has never felt so alone. She's hated because of her heritage and treated with open distain but her new betrothed and his people. But when she kidnapped by a rival clan, the heroine fights her captors to get back as she fears her sister will now be sent in her place. The hero, alpha of his pack of ancient werewolf shifting warriors and laird to his people has taken the fiancé of his enemy and his pregnant sister is retribution for a female whom was taken from them. From the second he meets the headstrong vocal and stubborn female, he knows he feels something far deeper for her than lust. But as a human, mating with her may birth human children and his pack needs wolf shifters to carry on his legacy. So, he vows to himself to stay detached. But his wolf is howling for her and he lets slip is possessive tendencies frequently during the trip to his castle and even more so when they arrive and she's now around other available wolf men. He's adamant that he can't take her to wife but there's no reason they can't explore carnal pleasures. But the heroine is a lady, despite her sharp tongue and the idea of giving herself to a man out of wedlock is wrong. And she's also betrothed to another man, even though the man doesn't want her. But she slowly finds herself falling for the arrogant laird and when she learns his secret, she astonishes him with her acceptance of his other form. It's becoming hard and hard for the hero to fight his instincts but when the tension between clans heat up, can he learn to trust his human mate? I fought really really hard to LOVE this book and though I can say that I enjoyed it, there were just too many things that irked me. But, let's start with the positive shall we. This is the first book I can remember in the genre of paranormal historical romance. Such an amazing mix up of genres that always manages to capture my eye and my attention. I also very much loved the whole alpha male possessive but responsible hero. His struggle to deny himself a woman he knows as his was compelling. I liked that the heroine was loyal. She fought for her friends even when doing so made her the target of ridicule. But alas, let's start into the cons. Firstly, a ton of modern phrasing and slang words made it into their speech patterns which really threw me off. Secondly, I became very disenchanted with the flow of the story and the fact that soon all the conversations between the hero and the heroine were a series of circles that just kept going around and around. They spoke about arrogant the hero was, how stubborn the heroine was, how she should respect him but she shouldn't have to because she was a captive. It went on and on until I felt like tearing my hair out. The writing style became the guy and the girl talking at each other rather than to each other. It didn't have any magic or tension. And my goodness was the heroine a whinny little snot ball. She honesty ranted for like 3 pages about everyone hates her. Well maybe if you didn't shove your opinions down everyone's throat they might warm to you more? I can say that I settled on a 3 star rating because it's middle of the rung. I liked some parts of the book, I disliked some parts of this book. ( )

Great read, lots of action and just the right amount of spice with very likable characters. ( )

I picked this up to re-read before starting Monroe's latest release in the series, Moon Craving. While I enjoyed it overall, I didn't love it as much this time around. The inconsistent way Emily acted in the beginning really bothered me.

Once I got past the first few chapters my enjoyment grew and I really fell into the story though. ( )
