The book however, is really lacking in any depth. It mentions two or three "activities" that blind people can do and sort of explains braille in one simple sentence. It would be ok for early readers but I don't like that it doesn't help the children you are "informing" that they are still people and can in fact do "normal" things. The book also mentions "they hear their friends talking on the phone" or "enjoy listening to audiobooks" but doesn't show any interactions with peers. ( ) Gives young kids information about kids and adults who are blind in a simple and easy to understand way. It gives them information on reasons why they could be blind and things they use to assist them in walking, writing, and reading. Provides a glossary in the back. It is the perfect informational book for a kindergarten age student on why a classmate uses a stick to see and why their books and way of writing is different. Kids are naturally curious about things that are different so to give them information about their new friends will help to ease all the questioning of the blind student. This book will be very helpful for children that are naturally curious about the differences in themselves and other people that are blind. This book explains that children who are blind often seem to attract attention and that it is ok. This book also explains why children have to learned to use their sense of touch and hearing to compensate for their loss of sight and the devices of guide dogs and canes to help in their everyday lives. This book gives lots of understanding to curious children and its a great easy way of explaining. Age range: 4 - 8 Year I had mixed feelings about this book. For the most part, I really liked it. This book is a part of a series called “Understanding Differences” which addresses a different disability in every book. It is written for very young readers, using only a couple of simple sentences on every other page. Since it is an informational book, this book has a table of contents, page numbers, a “Words to Know” section, a “Read More” section, an “Internet Sites” section, and an index and word list. Although it is written for young children, it contains a number of text features and encourages students to learn more. However, one thing that I did not like about this book was the content. I think that this book could have addressed much more about blindness in 24 pages than it actually did. The author did a nice job explaining the condition and some supports at first, but I feel as if more information could have been given and received well by this age group. Overall, the big idea of this book was to teach about blindness. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
