I read this without reading #1. I don't think that influenced my opinion of this volume. It is interesting but ultimately that good. The art is nice but not groundbreaking and I get it, it is hard to make a new take on superheroes, but it wasn't terrible, just not that good. ( )

Summary:

Brutal killers, a rescue mission into the heart of darkness. What came out of the hole? What lives in the hole? Where does the hole go? Does hope live in the wasteland across the river? Does madness?

Favorite Character:
Wow! Southern Belle is messed up. In my notes, I did not use the word messed.

The Feel:
Love the concept.

Favorite Scene / Quote:
Love the villain splash page. Saving villains...what could possibly go wrong.

The Crimson Shadow and Oriole facing the cultists at the hole.

The splash with the game cards and the d20 is awesome.

Hmm Moments:
Wonder what’s in the hole? Thrillseekers going spelunking in a hole that something unearthly came out of that turned heroes into psychos. Smart. There absolutely are people out there that would do that though. Although, they would be taking selfies and broadcasting live on Youtube as they did it.

What could possibly go wrong? Surely, the supervillains in the secret supervillain prison within the city where the superheroes have gone mad would want to be rescued...sure they would.

WTF Moments:
I expected something like what was at the bottom of the hole, but it was still bad assed.

Wisdom:
Yeah, the supervillains are who we thought they were. Love the reveal, shades of the Thunderbolts there.

Missed Opportunity:
The framing element of the congressional hearings is cool. Shame it doesn’t pay off.
