The text is serviceable as a tool to gently lull a young one to sleep, but the art knocks it out of the park. The colors are vibrant and delicious while still evoking the falling dusk. Both the animal characters and the sleepy woodland world they inhabit are made up of bold, charming shapes that catch the eye and echo mid-century design, illustration and animation. I want to look at these illustrations again and again. ( )

Goodnight Everyone by Chris Haughton is a children's story about a little bear cub who isn't tired and doesn't want to go to sleep.

We found the story to be a little bland. It's visually appealing, but the story wasn't super interesting.

I think it's a great bedtime book for toddlers.

While the book is visually beautiful collage of vibrant colors and sharp design, this bedtimes story lacks the emotional depth of it's visuals. The story is rather repetitive and lacks a really centered theme except for sometimes we just aren't ready to sleep but otherwise not the most deep book I have read this year. ( )

Impossible to read this without yawning! All the animals are sleepy, yawning and stretching...but Little Bear is not sleepy!
I liked this a lot. Lyra wasn't interested (even though she loves Haughton's other three books), possibly because this one is a full-size picture book rather than a board book.

Updated September 2017; L now LOVES this book. I still can't read it without yawning (but not because of boredom!). The sun is going down and everyone is sleepy...except little bear. But eventually little bear gets sleepy too and all the animals are asleep. The repetition lulls and soothes, there's just the right amount of humor, and if you pay attention, you can see some dandelion fuzz drift off into the stars...this one actually gets better with more reading! ( )
