He accepted them for their unique abilities rather then sun them. I find this book to be excellent in either the teen age or really the preteen. Could be used to defuse the bully situation that may arise in the classroom, or aid in acceptance with children with special needs. I also feel that the time jumping would aid in some historical content, and actually gives me an idea for a lesson plan in my methods class!
