I need to read more in series before I can decide on a rating. It could grow to be a great new series for me or could move too much into murky stuff not figured out or way too hard a try at humor.
A fun, paranormal cozy mystery. Some original twists to the worldbuilding and magic system; kept to an internal logic on what she did figure out although much remained mysterious. This first one, I feel like the main character found herself way funnier than I did but it was funny. The core mystery -- the murder of the former owner of her house -- was resolved, no cliffhanger type of ending.
"Zoey and I sat in the dining room, staring at the toaster. The evil appliance sat in the middle of the table, trying to look nonchalant with its extra-long cord wrapped casually around itself."
The potential romance with a shifter neighbor moved along too fast considering how much mysterious/eerie things were going on with him, his family, the town and new relatives. Foreshadowing of sinister things where I'm not sure how light or how dark series will get.
A whimsical tale chock full of witches and shape shifters, and enough mystery to keep the reader wanting the next book sooner rather than later. Wisteria Witches is a new series that is sure to be a favorite amongst those who love to read paranormal cozies. ( )
'Witches are attuned to the needs of others. We are happiest when helping." She looked at me pointedly. "That's probably what drove you to become a librarian."
Librarians are soldiers in pink cardigans, waging war against ignorance. We get asked more stupid questions than should be legally allowed [...] And yet, we keep showing up day after day, because we know we have the power to save souls. The right book at the right time can save a life, at any age.
A wise man -- Neil Gaiman -- says, "Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one."
One unusual thing in particular was the Grumpy Corner. This was a darkened corner of the staff lounge that was outfitted with beanbag chairs, big pillows, and two space heaters for winter use. Any member of staff could go there to chill at any time, even outside of official breaks, without judgement.

It all seemed forced and unnatural and actions were clearly being steered by plot requirements instead of human motivations. ( )
