"So Matau took up his mere and smote the giant, and then they all went back to their pa" and of course we don't need telling that the mere is a club and the pa is not their dad but the compound where they live, but so often we do get it. Also there is a nice just-so story here about how Lake Wakatipu got its shape (they burned the giant while he was lying down in the fetal position and it left a crater).
