As soon as the book started, it was already filled with action and suspense as Thisbe and Fifer wandered through the forest. When Thisbe accidently killed Panther, that revealed Alex’s overprotectiveness and worry. When Hux appears, asking for new wings, Thisbe and Fifer were determined to prove they were capable of fixing the wings. Accompanied by their best friend Seth, the three snuck out to fly with Hux to the Island of Dragons. As they neared the waterfall, the end of their world, Alex and Seth’s mom, Carina, realize they’re gone. A final search and questioning round takes place at Artime, but Hux, Seth, Thisbe and Fifer are crossing the empty void between a floating island and the waters the Artimeans are so familiar with. A small rescue team made of Carina, Seth’s mom, Thatcher, a strong young man, and Simber, a magical stone cheetah with wings, set off to find the children before they get into too much trouble. However, the children were already in trouble, as Hux barely made it to the edge of the island without falling down the endless void. He collapsed, extremely tired, at the top of the cliffs, and Thisbe and Fifer ran off to find food and water, but were almost immediately kidnapped. After bringing the cell door alive, meeting strange people, and saving Seth from the rogue door, they searched for Hux but found him gone. Soon after, Carina, Simber, and Thatcher arrived. Seth, Thisbe, and Fifer decided to head off to find Hux in the castle where all the other dragons were kept, but after a short stop, Thisbe found someone to be their guide. They continued up the mountain and Hux found them again, scaring the shady guide, which led him to being more helpful. The group entered the castle, and Thisbe was brought to the dungeons due to her short hair. There she met Carina and Thatcher, as well as a new friend, Maiven. Left in the dragon stables with barely any materials to fix new wings, Fifer and Seth began brainstorming ways to free the dragons, and Simber was trying to find a way to free his teammates. Seth was kicked out of the castle because his eye color was not black like the girls’, but he and Simber found a way to talk to Fifer from a window that connected the dragon stables and the outside world. However, before Fifer had a chance to finish attaching all the dragon wings, she was grabbed and put inside a carriage with Thisbe to be auctioned off. Seth and Simber barely managed to finish the rest of the wings and rescue Carina and Thatcher, so the carriage was long gone by the time all four managed to escape the castle. At the market, Thisbe and Fifer were tied up in a cart with people staring at their strange black eyes. Thisbe put up glass walls to keep some people away, but then the Revinir showed up - the ruler of the Island of Dragons. She was none other than Queen Eagala! At that moment, Simber came to rescue the twins, but he didn’t notice the glass walls and crashed right into them. Fifer was knocked out and began to bleed, and Thisbe looked on helplessly. The Revinir quickly made off with Thisbe, and Simber had to take Fifer home without Thisbe.

Immediately after I started reading, I loved the adventure Thisbe and Fifer were having in the jungle. I was drawn in by their power and how effortlessly Thisbe accidently killed Panther, and I was interested in Alex’s personality change. Thisbe and Fifer’s determination is admirable, and I can connect with their effort to prove themselves. When Hux almost dropped Seth, Thisbe, and Fifer, I was on the edge of my seat because the details were fantastic. The plot flowed smoothly, and learning more about all the characters as the story progressed was very fun. Thinking about a dragon’s ability to sense how much good and evil is in a person makes me ask questions about myself, and sometimes it makes me think about other characters in the series. When I read Thisbe’s experience in the dungeon, I could envision the water and dampness. When at the Dragonsmarche, I could imagine the twins tied up, and attracting a large crowd. I loved all the details this book provided, and I would definitely want to reread it. ( )
