A woman is hired to help set up a virtual reality for an old woman whose adult children are making the decision to send her into VR. I listened on audio and I must have missed some details. I don't understand the secrecy to the children's motivation, I don't understand the imaginary friend. I don't understand what happened at the end, why was she left behind?

The story originally appeared in the ROGUES anthology. I own that book but skipped the story when I was reading through. When I saw the audio version narrated by Kate Baker was available, I decided to give it a shot.
I think it's likely a decent/fun story. A "package" passes through many hands in this historical setting. I saw one reviewer call it a "relay race". It's not my particular preference. So many characters, archetypes and time is spent on each character telling "their" tale. I'm not so interested in this fictional time period full of masculine, excellent fighting, dirty scumbags so I quit a bit over the halfway mark.
