This is the second book in the Magical Animal Adoption Series. It was a cute story which deals with the importance of caring for animals, believing in yourself and others as well as looking beyond what is right in front of your face.

Clover works at the Magical Animal Adoption Agency. They have brought in a mysterious egg and do not know what will hatch. Mr. Jams goes off to bring back an egg expert and leaves Clover in charge. While he is gone, lots of things happen. The egg hatches, but Clover can not find the animal. She sets all kinds of traps but has no success. What she does find are things being chewed up, food eaten and items destroyed. She must catch the magical animal before Mr. Jams returns. Meanwhile a box of kittens is left on the doorstep. One floats, one tumbles, one send sparks from its tail and the last freezes things with looks from its eyes. She is becoming very worried that she is not able to do the job Mr. Jams has given her. Luckily her pet kitten, Dipity, is able to calm the kittens. She handles a couple of adoptions (a unicorn and a fairy horse) quite successfully. She meats a giant couple who want a pet, but she has nothing for them at the time. The Vetranarian, the giants, the ghost and the Leprechauns all let her know what a great job she is doing. In the end, everything turns out just right. A great story with simple black and white illustrations that give just enough visuals to appeal to children.

Absolutely wonderful! The Enchanted Egg is just as clever, magical, compelling, and positive as the first book in the series. And now I desperately want to meet an invisible flying puppy. ( )

Clover returns to the animal adoption agency and is excited about a new magical color changing egg. When she is once again left in charge of caring for the Agency, the egg cracks open. Clover searches all over for the animal inside but can't find it. She comes up with numerous attempts to trap it. Only when some giants and ghosts come to adopt animal do they find that the animals is an invisible dog.
This second installment continues the series with similar imagination. With so many students loving animals and magic, this series will capture the interest of many students. Clover's feelings of insecurity will also speak to a number of students. This book can be used with students as a way to teach predicting. Teachers could read aloud then stop frequently and have students write the next section of the book as a prediction. During the following reading students could check predictions and then discuss.

Clover has returned in another sweet and gentle adventure at the Magical Animal Adoption Agency.

After her adventures with a witch, magical cat, and dragon in the first book, she feels ready to handle anything! Or....maybe not. Mr. Jams has to leave again, leaving Clover in charge of the mysterious and magical egg. Clover doesn't know what to write to her best friend who's away at camp and then things start going wrong. Giants show up, a floating pastry chef, and worst of all the egg hatches....but she can't find the baby!

Clover sticks it out, despite frustration and a few breakdowns and finally manages to solve the mystery of the hatched egg and realizes that, even without magic, she can still handle things in her own way, with care and kindness and determination.

Boiger's soft black and white illustrations and gently glowing cover will grab the attention of kids looking for a gentle fantasy read and those who have already been introduced to Clover's world and are eager to find out more. Although this series is usually labeled a "beginning chapter" I would call it more of an early middle grade. It does come in right around 100 pages, but the type is much smaller than a typical beginning chapter book and needs a more accomplished reader.

Verdict: Recommend this to readers who are ready to move on from the typical animal shelter beginning chapter book fare and can tackle a little more challenging read. Sweet and delightful to the last page.
