PitcherBooks: While I enjoyed The Hobbit a bit more than the Elven, I like The Elven much more than the LOTR. I have yet to read the sequels but Elven had the feel of a fantasy classic to it. Time will tell...
Pros: Great world-building and characters, mostly action, adventure and magic with only the last tenth or so devoted to the obligatory war. Since I'm not big on wars this was a major plus.
Con: The Hobbit was shorter, more endearing and faster moving. Elven is a lengthy tome but the characters and adventures held my interest even so.… (más)

De eerste helft van het boek is me hooguit drie sterren waard. Net. Wat een slagveld aan kromme zinnen, stomme tijdsprongen en overbodige uitweidingen. Hoewel ik de plot echt wel goed vind, krijg ik niet echt een band met de personages en ik denk dat dat iets met het taalgebruik te maken heeft. Dat is echt te wollig. Het laatste stuk maakte echter toch dat ik met tranen in mijn ogen aan het lezen was. Uiteindelijk krijgt het door het einde en door de plot vier sterren, maar echt maar net. Eigenlijk 3,5 ster. ( )
Well...the beginning was fun. Then it kind of got boring. About 10% into the book I was ready to be done but then I kept reading and at about 20% I got interested again. It was good for awhile but then it tanked again. I think the main problem is it is too long...way too long. It is the kind of book where you just feel like you need to start skipping whole pages. The storyline is interesting and engaging but it needed a deep edit. Also, I really didn't like Noroelle...Really? All that for her? Not buying it... ( )
Die vielen Zeitsprünge waren überhaupt nicht nach meinem Geschmack. Und ich bin kein Fan von Schlachten und Duellen, die viel zu viel Seiten einnehmen. Ich habe die endgültige Schlacht meistens überfliegen.
Ansonsten fand ich die Welt als einfallsreich erschafft, nicht jedoch die meisten Charaktere. Nur Nuramon und Noroelle mochte ich. Mandred konnte ich nicht leiden. ( )
