1. This book is about Jackie Robinson becoming the first black baseball player in the National Baseball League. Branch Rickey had experienced his black baseball player being discriminated against when he was a college coach and did not like it. He promises that player the day would come when color did not matter. Branch became general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers and sent scouts out to find the best black baseball player. The scouts found Jackie and he started on the Dodgers farm team before joining the Dodgers. Jackie suffered tremendous discrimination and he was called numerous derogatory names and insults. He never wavered in his determination to play baseball and over come the prejudiced he suffered. In 1947, he was named Rookie of the Year, and in 1962, he was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame.

2. I liked this story because of the perseverance, teamwork, and good conquering evil.

3. I would use this book to illustrate that hard work, determination, and teamwork will dismantle any unfair barrier.
