How on earth could a story about rabbits be so gripping?! It’s earnest and heartfelt, and full of the high ideals that make these stories so good - loyalty, betrayal, surprise revelations, and so many hard choices. I like that there are mistakes made and that the characters have to decide what to do with the consequences - get stuck and wallow in self-pity, or move on and make the most of the position that you’re in?
This series so far seems to strike a balance between Narnia (ok for younger kids) and Wingfeathers (better for older kids, especially as the series progresses). I’d say 9-11 would be a good age, depending on the kid. ( )

children's fantasy/adventure (warrior rabbits)
This series has been decently popular at my library, so I thought I'd check it out--I picked up the 2nd book instead of the first by accident, but I figured I'd sample it anyway (you definitely want to start with book #1, The Green Ember first). The first few chapters seemed to involved getting surprise-attacked by raptors, repeatedly.
Recommended for kids who like bunny stories, and/or Erin Hunt-type talking animal warrior stories (4th grade and up). ( )

The author does a good job of holding your interest with lots of adventure and action going on in this second book in 'The Green Ember' series. This story picks up where book one left off and to get a good idea of what is going on, you really need to read these stories in the order written.

There is a war going on and Morbin Blackhawk, who is a slaver and a tyrant, is out to destroy the rabbits, even though they are putting up a good resistance, but it doesn't seem like they can hold out and win this war. Heather and Picket are brother and sister rabbits and they play a major role in this story, along with some of their friends. Deceit and danger seem to be everywhere and who you can trust is hard to discern as you read about the battles being faced.

The author also does a good job of not ending the story, but letting you wonder what will happen next, so you will be ready for the next book in this series. This seems like a story written for youth, but it can appeal to all ages as it deals with trust, honor, forgiveness and many other lessons we can gain from its pages. Looking forward to reading more, hopefully, in this series. ( )
