There are ghosts in my past-ghosts I can't recognize. My painting heals me, but Lucas Caine has made me come alive. My past could take both those things away forever. What started out as an undeniable need to create was quickly turning into danger as my longing for memories fed the rough canvases I filled. Falling for Lucas will force me to revisit my lost memories-and possibly lose myself, my art, and him in the process. And now he has me skating the thin edge between desire and fear as I use a past I don't remember to leverage a future I'm not sure I want.… (más)

Imagine all your world before age seventeen is gone. No recall, no memory, nothing....Just a vast void of black. That is what artist Ryn is dealing with. Since the age of seventeen she awoke knowing how to drive, what tv is, etc...but not the essentials of who she is or where she came from. One thing in her gut that she does know is she escaped something REALLY bad. In the hospital they discovered facial scarring from complete facial reconstruction. She has no clue what she used to look like. Who to trust? Where to go? Along the way she discovers her love of art and true talent for painting. Her BFF/confidante/manager Brayden is her lifeline. Suffering from panic attacks and anxiety...and who wouldn't after what she's endured....she holes up and paints letting Brayden sell her art. At the first gallery showing she's forced to attend, she meets Lucas Caine. He's dark, mysterious and she's instantly drawn to him. Is he her savior or downfall? Someone from her past is stalking Ryn....tormenting her with daffodils that vanish as soon as they come....rearranging her paintings. Someone is DESPERATELY trying to spark her memory, but for what reason? Through all this she turns to Lucas....but is he really her safety net? At the same time art insurance investigator Dan Turner is hell bent on proving she's the cause for one of her paintings going missing. he also has a very personal bone to pick with Lucas....and is pushing her for her memories. Who is being altruistic, and who is using her? Riddles wrapped around mysteries surround Ryn with every breathe she takes. Who can she trust when she doesn't even trust her own mind? All this intrigue and it's only the first book of the series.....Who is after Ryn? What happened in her past? Are Brayden and Lucas people she should truly trust? We shall see.... ( )

Suspense, suspicions and superior writing abound in this book. I do wish that I didn’t have to wait to find out what happens next but book 2 won’t be out till November and I will have to wait till January of next year to read the conclusion of this trilogy. That said…I loved this book and really want to read more!

Cathryn “Ryn” Taylor has no memories of her life before she showed up in a hospital when she might have been seventeen. She does not have the face she was born with and is compelled to paint moody intense art. She has support from a few people that have entered her life since that day in the hospital and she believes she is ready to reclaim her past…if she can. Alpha male Lucas Caine steps into her life as she is preparing for a showing of her work in a New York gallery. The chemistry between them is instantaneous but not all consuming…at least not at first. As additional characters enter the story the tension increases – along with my desire to find out what will happen next…and what the backstory really is.

I do not like to give away the plot of books I read. So suffice to say that this is a book that I recommend to anyone who likes suspense, mystery and romance. There is a cliff hanger that leads into book two BUT I do not feel compelled to buy the next book due to a gimmick but instead because I really really want to know what will happen to Ryn, Lucas and a few more characters in the book. I take my hat off to Stephanie Tyler and can’t wait to read more of her work!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. ( )
