But as they investigate together, Ellen's golden retriever partner at their side, they find themselves dead center in a killer's crosshairs. Lynette Eason is the author of Honor and Defend, the fourth book in the Rookie K-9 Unit continuity. The rookie we get to know this time is Ellen Foxcroft. She is from Desert Valley, rich, wants to leave her controlling mother behind and once dated Lee Earnshaw. Lee is also from Desert Valley, from the wrong side of town according to Ellen’s mother and just recently released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit. One thing that they both have in common is that the both love dogs. Ellen is putting her money to good use by training dogs to aid people with different kinds of disabilities and hires Lee to help her. On the way back from picking up three dogs Lee and Ellen are shot at. The main story in this book moves along quickly and there are a couple of surprises. The characters are strong and likable. There will be a few more clue about the story that flows through the continuity. I liked this story and have enjoyed all of the books in the continuity so far. I would recommend it to anyone that likes suspense stories in a continuity format.
