Oddly enough, this book begins with a brief biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder and an adaption of an essay she wrote in 1916. Wilder is best known for writing the Little House on the Prairie children's books. Fairy Poems is a sweet, whimsical book of 5 poems starring adorable little nature fairies. Although I am not a fan of poetry, I did adore this because of my love of fairy tales (in this case, it's literally a tale/poem of fairies!). I would recommend this to any child who loves fairy tales like I do. It may open them up to poetry in the end. ( )

Fairy Poems is an adorable book about fairies and the various activities that they do throughout the day and night. The reader can really visualize what the fairies are doing, through text. The author described the fairies as having jewels in their hair. Another example of the visuals in the book, is when the author says that the fairies are coloring the apples, making the grapes bloom purple, and painting the peaches' cheeks. I also really like the magical/fairy tale theme that the book depicts. ( )

Long ago, it was said that farmers left crops on the ground for the "Little People." It is said that if crops weren't left for them then they would become angry and would not allow the crops to grow. These little people are fairies that help the farmers grow crops and take care of the land. There are many different fairies including Drop O' Dew and Ray O' Sunshine. They paint fruit, flowers, leaves, and the grasses. These little fairies work very hard and rarely get any rest. When they do rest, you may notice them sleeping in the beds of flowers. The illustrations are very detailed, showing the fairies do their job in the field. This poetry book is more for older readers because of its chapter book style. If you love fairytales and imaginary creatures like I do, then you will most likely love this book. ( )

My Response: I only knew Laura Ingalls Wilder as the lady who wrote the “Little House in the Prairie and not as a poet who wrote about fairies. She did grow up in a more simple time where imagination wasn’t stomped out of you at an early age. It is very magic and sweet to see something like this.

This is a compilation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Fairy Poems that she wrote in the early 20th century. The book begins with a small biography about Laura and then proceeds with her works on fairies. ( )
