Liu and Sana Takeda As always, the art in these are just amazing. It's not overly-stylized. I feel like it's not really stylized at all, but just depicts people as they look. The characters are beautiful, but I feel like it's part of their world that the women in these high power positions have the means to make themselves gorgeous because they are the only ones, aside from the main character, who doesn't have political power, so much as something else inside her. Well, they're beautiful until they're scarred for life somehow. If you've been reading the series, you've seen some crazy stuff go down. I love the way the story is evolving, the mystery around Constantine is getting more intense and we get a peak at it and at what this strange multi-eyed thing is. I also appreciated that we getting a little more of the background to the world. The world building in this is just amazing. While every character is interesting, I can't help but love the little fox girl. I already have the next issue pre-ordered but it won't be out until October! Again, each installment of this series is full of detailed design and art. The story is masterful. And one thing I particularly love is the strength of the female characters. Whether good or evil, they are incredibly fierce. Even our little fox arcanic Kippa is willing to risk her life for loyalty and friendship! Last week I suffered a post-GoT loss after I finished watching season 6, I feel something similar coming with Monstress, as the sixth issue is at this time the last one (good news though, it will continue in August).
The story came to a very nice climax, and I was sitting at the edge of my seat. I was wondering what the story would bring but it was great! I'm really looking forward to the next parts!
On the first volume of Monstress: Awakening:
I was reading Monstress to celebrate the release of the first volume, called Awakening, but as they were placed on Netgalley as separate issues, I decided to judge them as such, as between the issues and the volume the extras can differ somewhat.
Those of you who've been following my reviews know I'm very enthusiastic about this comic. I really loved it. The artwork is amazing, one of the best I've seen and the story is also very good.
If you don't plan to read a lot of comics this year, please do consider Monstress.
If you read a lot of comics, I'm confident that Monstress is on your list, if you haven't read it already!
