Interesting book about the various cities in states in the U.S. and of their origins of how they got their names. The illustrations are great too. ( ) New York is English, Chattanooga is Creek is a creative revealing of the United States’ cities and their names’ meanings. Each of the cities is personified as a guest at a party in which personalities and characteristics are revealed to represent how the city got its name. I found the book and its illustrations to be original and imaginative, but at times difficult to follow. For example, “Minneapolis, part Sioux. Minneapolis, part Greek. Greek polis means city. Now, Minnea comes from Minnehaha, means water falling not water laughing, ha ha.” The sentence structure offers a complicated, and sometimes disjointed, explanation to the reader. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
