I buddy listened to this quick audio book (3 1/2 hours) this morning with a good friend, and we both loved it! Luc is definitely my new book crush... he's attractive, charming, just vulnerable enough, smart, thoughtful, and (world language teacher here!) bilingual! I'm really impressed by how well I came to understand the characters in this book, both Luc and his NYPD partner K Burke. This story contained some classic detective case-cracking plus holiday scenes and a stunning trip to Paris! Recommend. *This is book 2 in the series of only 3 so far - so disappointed at that because I was hoping for at least 10! I'm going back to listen to book 1, French Kiss, next but if you're starting this series I would say begin with French Kiss.

The series is written in an unpleasant 1st person point of view. This 1st person narrative seems contrived and makes the story disjointed. The 1st person narrative causes the story to lag and takes too much time to describe details. While details to a mystery are important, unlike other James Patterson books, the story drags and I began to just wish for it to be done. The story itself was passable but not really compelling. ( )

2nd in the detective Luc Moncrief Bookshots series. Luc and K. Burke are called on to find some art thieves who murdered a wealthy woman. More of this book was devoted to the extravagant tastes of Moncrief, than to mystery. The book also discusses the death of Luc's father, and Moncrief's growing relationship with his police partner, K. Burke. ( )

This bookshot takes Detectives Moncrief and Burke from art forgery to murder. Much happens in this quick read, meant for action without a lot of detail. The reader is treated to more personal aspects of the detectives and less police procedure. ( )

This BookShot was pretty easy and quick to get through. It is the second in a BookShot series featuring French NYPD Detective Luc Moncrief. In this one, Moncrief and his partner, K Burke, are assigned an art forgery case that ultimately leads to murder.

I was very impressed with the first book, but this one didn't really do the same for me. The half was all about the case and the investigation, filled with plenty of action. The remainder of the book had him going back to Paris with K Burke to deal with a family emergency and felt a bit like a romance book. Now, I have no problems with romance being featured in books like these. In fact, I welcome it. But, I didn't feel like it needed to be half the book. I can understand the need to include this portion to the story and did still enjoy the overall story, which is why I gave it the three stars. ( )
