It seems like I have this book on my Kindle. I probably got a free copy at some time. I loved reading books of this genre and it's highly likely I will like this book.

The author has the right to defend fellow authors that he is a friend with in real life (I presume)... even if the contested author is the head of the cockygate scandal and author of a book I DNFed very quickly because I personally found the book to be poorly written fluff. I don't defend that woman's actions for obvious reasons.

On the other hand, he claims that most indie authors are inherently stupid (not really sure the logic in there)

I just casually am an indie author myself. Do I make lots of money as an author? Not really. Probably made 60 USD last year. Guess I should just stick to the easy stuff, like my regular anesthesiologist gig.

I will give the book a chance to read sometime though just for curiosity sake even if the author seems to be shooting himself in the foot with all of the high school drama and stuff.

I started this book with low exceptions, and it turns out I was right. This is one of the dullest books I've read.
First of all the writing is dull, it's like it's trying to make you zone out. The fight scenes weren't great either. The plot didn't go anywhere. The sex scenes were some of the most boring sex scenes you could imagine, dull writing and more vanilla than vanilla pudding.
The main character is a perv, with the excuse of cultural differences. And all the other character are forgettable like dry bread.
The setting is a mess, modern conveniences, running water, swords penetrating chainmail, etc.
But hey, at least the book almost takes a daring stance against political marriages. ( )

The Destroyer
The Destroyer, Book 1
By: Michael-Scott Earle
Narrated by: Kevin T. Collins
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the unique characters and plot. The story opens with travelers waking a frail man that's been sleeping for a long time. Come to find out it has been a very, very long time! Like a thousand years! They bring him home with them. He perks up well with food and water because he kicks major a$$ right after that and just keeps getting better! The story bounces between the present and the past as the man starts to remember bits and pieces. It is very exciting and a big clash between the society life of the man and the travelers.
The narrator does an excellent job of making this book extraordinary! ( )

"You are my best friend, my saviour, but you don't understand this war. What are you fighting for? Whom are you fighting for?"

You know that moment when you read the last sentence and you think:"Ehi, nonono. Wait. WAIT. This isn't the end, right? There are some missing chapters, right? It CAN'T be the end!!!"? Well, this is one of those moments. I absolutely NEED answers to what happened in the last part of the book and not only there, because the only things I have are some clue and suspicions, but no certaintes.

Anyway, let me order my thoughts. Are you looking for action mixed with irony, suspance and sensuality? You've found the right book.
During the first part of the story I was both confused and fascinated. What puzzled me the most (and actually still does) is the character of Kaiyer. He's totally unpredictable: he can be ruthless but also very loyal, cold but at the same time passionate, cunning while also ignorant of the actual time. Just in the first pages he kills without apparent effort something like eight soldiers, not to mention all the other people he will slaughter later on. Oh, and don't forget that he's a capable womanizer, even though in the past his attention was focused only on one single woman. Sometimes this attitude towards women made me quite pissed, but I think it's his only flaw. I found amazingly funny his sarcasm, which he used particularly during some minor scuffles but even during fights, and I appreciated his resourcefulness and combat abilities. He's a kind of hero and antihero at the same time, because even though he wants to help his friends, he's still aggressive, bows to no one and he's ready to sacrifice human lives to obtain his aims. Moreover I'm still trying to understand who he really is, since the only things known about his past are some memories recalled in the middle of the chapters. Incidentally, I think that it would be better using italics for writing those parts, because sometimes at the beginning it was difficult understanding if it was a memory or not.

The other characters are quite well structured too, even though they're less "complex" than Kaiyer. I appreciated Nadea's strenght and intelligence, Greykin's protectiveness and loyalty, Jessmei's glee and naivete. I often found myself a little bit annoyed by Paug because of his insecurities and his apparently weak personality, but at the end I changed my opinion a bit .

Going on with the reading I appreciated more and more the way fighting scenes are described. I must admit they're quite gruesome and bloody, but at the same time really realistic. Not only normal weapons are involved, but even magic, and both elements are perfectly combined to create an amazing fantasy setting. It would have been nice to have a small map with the different territories and the mentioned cities, in order to have a clearer view of the story.
Not to mention the amazing coup de théatre, that actually creates even more doubts than before! It's more like a hint meant for leading the reader towards the solution, and I think it's a great and innovative idea. These questions aren't solved by the cliffhanger representing the ending. I oddly appreciated it, even though at the same time I'm terribly annoyed because I really want to know what happens next. I'm looking forward to the next book! ( )

The Destroyer by Michael-Scott Earle is the first book in the The Destroyer series. A war is being waged against the country of Nia, and Duchess Nadea and Scholar Paug are on a quest to find the one to save their country. Is he the one that will save them or is he the downfall of Nia?

I had trouble with this story for the first 25%. It was hard going, so I gave myself a week and tried it again. The pace picked up, but I had problems with the flashbacks. It took me a bit to realize if the flashbacks were actually happening or in the past. The female characters seem to all be the same. All alluring with wonderfully sculpted bodies which, for me, was a bit of a disappointment. I did like the main character and Paug, which is the only reason I picked the book back up. There were inconsistencies which, with an editor, would have been resolved. There was quite a bit of talk and references to sex, and actual sex encounters, which I did not care for. I passed through those pages swiftly. There was quite a bit of fighting and bloodshed. This is the perfect book for those looking for sex and bloody battles. ( )
