Fiction. Literature. Mystery. HTML:

Zoe Maisey is a seventeen-year-old musical prodigy with a genius IQ. Three years ago, she was involved in a tragic incident that left three classmates dead. She served her time, and now her mother, Maria, is resolved to keep that devastating fact tucked far away from their new beginning, hiding the past even from her new husband and demanding Zoe do the same.

In the aftermath, everyoneâ??police, family, Zoe's former solicitor, and Zoe herselfâ??tries to piece together what happened. But as Zoe knows all too well, the truth is rarely straightforward, and the closer we are to someone, the less we may see… (más)

I read as far as the "script" by Lucas concerning his dying mother. Then I began to skip ahead looking for this script to end...
Somewhere in the flashback to the arrest I gave up. It's not for me.

The story was fine in a cookie cutter way but I read it happily anyway. The way it was told...something was off. It was like nobody cared enough about the story they were telling. They all seemed like they were trying to interject drama to sound less bored. The POV switching to introduce multiple characters and move the plot along can be exquisitely done (ref. "Seven Types of Ambiguity" by Elliot Perlman), but is difficult to do. The author tried and almost, almost made it work. I wanted this device to work! It wound up as too much to keep track of. ( )

Hard to describe this novel, except to say it is an enjoyable read. It's a story told from multiple perspectives and with a host of interesting characters -- centered around the main character, a teenaged girl named Zoe, who has led a somewhat tragic (and sheltered) life. ( )

THOUGHTS: This one fell flat for me. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't get there. The characters were flat, the outcome could be seen pretty much from the beginning. I am giving her a 3rd star just because What She Knew was a such a great read.
