It’s Ramadan, Curious George

I Picked Up This Book Because: I want to learn about Ramadan and I find children’s books a good place to start for basic information.

The Story:

I did not glean any new information about Ramadan however I did realize that this book is poetry. I don’t know how I’ve never realized that about Curious George books. ( )

As we prepare for the holy month to arrive, what better way to introduce your little ones to Ramadan than with Curious George! Written in rhyme and beautifully illustrated, this book covers the most beautiful aspects of Ramadan. A great book (for both Muslims and non-Muslims) if you are looking to expose your child to different cultures and their celebrations and traditions! ( )

This book is about Curious George, the monkey, and his friend Kareem. Curious George celebrates with Kareem for his first Ramadan. I liked this book for two reasons. First, the book was well organized. The book has tabs the contain a picture of what that section is about. For instance, the page titled "Waiting For Sunset" has a tab with a picture of the sunset. You can easily locate and go back and forth to the different sections. Second, I liked the ABCB rhyme scheme. This adds a rhythmic tone to the book that makes reading fun without overcomplicating the language. For example, "Kareem invites George to the mosque. They gather to do a good deed. Together they make food baskets, To share with others in need." The big idea of this book is that everyone is different, but this doesn't mean that you can't help others celebrate their culture/beliefs. ( )
