This book is appropriate for kindergarten-2nd grade. This is a darker re-telling of sleeping beauty that shows the death of those who tried to get through the cursed thorns to rescue sleeping beauty from her slumber. This is a great story, but may be dark for some younger students. I probably wouldn't have this in my classroom because I wouldn't want my sensitive students to see that it says sleeping beauty thinking it's the original version, but then get scared of this version because of the dark twist. This book is good to read to primary, but i dont think primary should try reading it themselves. This book is about the typical story of aurora and her rescue. I would use this book if I wanted a mystical book to read. It is not very informational, but it can be fun for the student.

"The Sleeping Beauty" contained some things that I do not remember from the stories that I have heard about sleeping beauty. There are so many different versions of the story and each one contains something unique. In this version, not only does sleeping beauty fall into a deep sleep but so does her entire castle. Also in this version, sleeping beauty's name is Briar Rose but in other versions her name is Aurora. It is definitely interesting to see the differences but also to see the similarities. In all versions sleeping beauty is beautiful, kind, and graceful. Also similar to other versions, the king and queen burn all of the spinning wheels but at the end sleeping beauty somehow still finds herself pricking her finger. I honestly enjoyed this book, not only because I love the story but also because the art in this book was beautiful and well done. ( )

This book is a twist on the sleeping beauty books I was exposed to as a child. The author illustrates the novel beautifully. The illustrations relate exactly to the text. The illustrations in a way are graphic and dark. The fairies in the novel are not the typical minature size. In the book some of the fairies are ugly and some look beautiful. The fairies also are the same height as the average people in the book. The fairytale of sleeping beauty in this book is just illustrated to be very dark, however, it ends with a happy typical ending. Sleeping beauty rides away with her Prince Charming. ( )

This classic tale of sleeping beauty, but with a spin. Where the curse not only affected the princess but everyone in the kingdom. As many years passed and a prince had heard of the story and tried to visit the castle but over the years thorns had covered the castle making it impossible to enter. The prince persevered and finally made his way to the heart of the castle, the princess and saved the kingdom. ( )
