A picture book about two brothers who decide to camp out in their backyard at night. The elder accuses his younger brother of being a scaredy-cat, and then tells him a scary story about a green garbage-can-eating monster to try and really scare him. But when they start to hear rattling crashes in the night, it's not the younger brother who gets scared!

The story is simple, but Mayer's illustrations are as wonderful as usual and help carry his plot. I like how he captures the bravado and foolishness of the children, as well as their vulnerability. I, along with a great many people, still relate to being afraid of the dark, and think it is very normal for a little fear to grow out of control with a lot of imagination. Kids are sure to enjoy a story that deals with a subject close to all kids' hearts, and portrays it with great comical illustrations. ( )

When I read this book I really enjoyed it. It was full of colorful pictures which children enjoy. It actually reminded me of being a child again.
