Suleiman the Magnificent: Sultan of the East, by Harold Lamb (7 Sept 1974) Harold Lamb is a synonym for popularized (and fictiony) history. This is the fourth book of his I've read (the prior ones were The March of Muscovy; Cyrus the Great; and The City and the Tsar). Suleiman was about 25 when he became Sultan in 1530. He died in 1566. The book is written from the Turkish viewpoint, and shows the Turks in a far better light than I have ever read before. But even so, Suleiman had people murdered with some abandon, including his eldest son. After Suleiman died the Turks went down hill; but Suleiman expanded the Turks' land to its greatest extent. Interesting story, but Lamb is a storyteller, not a historian. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
