"This Reader is designed as a companion to the editor's highly successful Christian Theology: An Introduction. It makes available some 280 seminal texts from the entire Christian tradition from Ignatius of Antioch to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994), cross-referenced and indexed for ease of use. All readings prior to 1800 have been specially translated for the purposes of this reader, to ensure consistency of translation and ease of reading in English. Every effort has been made to ensure that the work is as user-friendly as possible, making as few demands as possible of its users. Each chapter includes an introduction outlining the main historical and theological issues, and identifying key issues and thinkers. Each individual reading is prefaced by an introduction, alerting the reader to its importance and context, and followed where necessary by notes on translation and interpretation. The work also includes a full glossary of theological terms and biographical details of theologians cited, as well as suggestions for further reading."--Jacket.… (más)

An excellent source-book for Christian theology through the whole of the Church's history. The sources - each with a short introduction - are arranged thematically, allowing the reader to discover how the debate in those areas has progressed. There is a helpful biographical section of the theologians cited, and a timeline of their work. ( )

A gentle but sound introduction to the subject. ( )

Slightly more indpeth than the Introduction, but still a compilation of sources. Very good for high school or level one essays, or as a reference to who said what, on specified issues...

Christian theology is one of the most fascinating and rewarding subjects it is possible to study. The rich theological tradition of Christianity has taken root in virtually every part of global culture, and given rise to some of the most creative and important reflection in the history of human thought. To study this is to do more than gain insights into the Christian gospel; it is to understand more about human culture itself.
