Eckhart Tolle, renowned for the simple and powerful truths in his bestselling books, The Power of Now and Stillness Speaks, led an extraordinary two-day retreat at Findhorn, Scotland, famous as a magical community on the leading edge of personal and global transformation. When Tolle came to Findhorn, true magic happened, and the whole weekend is captured on audio CD in Eckhart Tolle's Findhorn Retreat. The CD is carefully edited down to create a deeply moving experience for listeners. Tolle provides simple tools for transformation - the clear guidance needed to deeply realize the magic of every moment. The main topic of Tolle's talk at the retreat is stillness. He explains how compulsive thoughts become as we analyze, interpret, and label every conscious experience we have. In such a state we can no longer perceive the sacredness in ourselves and in that of the natural world around us. Our experience of life becomes nothing but a never-ending reel of thoughts, opinions, and viewpoints.…

I really wanted to like Tolle, and in some ways I do. But I feel as though he has grabbed a lot of the great things from a multiplicity of religious traditions and put them together. Which sounds good at first, until you realize that it means that it can't all be true. Most of the religions of the world are mutually exclusive and if one is true, the other one can't be true at the same time. Even so, Tolle grabs them all and mashes them together, resulting in some stuff that sounds good, but has no real substance of truth at the core. I had heard a lot about his ideas about stillness and meditation, so I listened to this, hoping that there might still be some interesting points on those subjects. While there were definitely a couple of bits that are good to ponder, much of it comes across as fluff and pop-psychology. I must admit, that in my mind, it is a bit more solid than much of the other pop-psychology that I see around today, but without that core of truth, where are you? ( )

An excellent continuation of Eckhart Tolle's teachings. First read or listen to The Power of Now. Then continue with one of the many recorded retreats which are now available. ( )
