This was a 3.5 novel. I thought it was a really good beach romance with a emotional punch about forgiveness and friendship. I loved the setting and also all the romances we were exposed to. I thought the character of Sloane was a cool character to follow and loved seeing her romance develop with Finn. I think she really did change so much from the start to the end of the novel.

If you are looking for a more emotional beach read! Check this one out! ( )

Thought this book was really good. Sloane is heartbroken because her boyfriend and best friend have cheated on her, so she runs off to her mother's place in Hawaii and spends the summer trying to forget. The book has the appearance of a light read, and in many ways that's what it is--we spend lots of time on the beach and see an eclectic cast of Hawaiian characters (Erin, the author, is Hawaiian). But there's also quite a lot more to it. In the end, the book veers in a direction I wouldn't have expected (although the roots were there throughout) and says some surprisingly powerful things about the value of letting go of resentment. When I closed the book, I really did find myself moved.

I received an advance reader copy of the book. It wasn't in exchange for anything, really (I wasn't expected or required to leave a review), but I decided to post one anyway. ( )

I picked up this book at the library because I wanted a carefree, light read to start my summer. Summer of Sloane definitely fit the bill. Now, I know it’s YA and it’s teenagers and drama- but it was all a bit too much for me at the end. (The first half was ok for me, but it got overly dramatic in the second half.) I just couldn’t stop my brain from thinking several things:

1. Where are these kids’ parents? Seriously. Most parents wouldn’t be ok with letting their underage children drink and do whatever they want at all times.

2. The baby is kind of a side story- does no one realize that Mick is pregnant with a baby- one that will eventually be born and they’ll have to deal with?

3. Why doesn’t Sloane just text Tyler and Mick and just ask them to give her space. She never does and is all mad that they won’t leave her alone.

4. Is that honestly how they’re going to leave it all at the end? Without spoiling it, I’ll just say I wasn’t impressed.

All in all, yes, it’s YA. And yes, it’s kind of a frilly non-serious read, but there were so many issues I just couldn’t resolve for myself. Thus, it’s a 2 1/2 star review from me. ( )
