This is the fascinating biography of this infamous general, told by the person who knew him best. Mary Anna Jackson's brilliant work records a much forgotten aspect of Lieutenant General Jackson; his personal life. Barnard Elliot Bee Jr. famously stated that as Jackson beat back the Union assault at the First Battle of Bull Run he stood there like a "stone wall", yet to his wife he was a much different character. Mary Jackson's book charts the life of Jackson from his family's history through to his death when she was at his bedside. Mary uncovers details about Jackson's years at West Point, his involvement in the war with Mexico, his ten years spent as a Professor in the Virginia Military Institute, before going onto record the last two years of Jackson's life when he became one of the most prominent leaders of Confederate forces. Mary provides brilliant insight into the thoughts and ideas of Stonewall Jackson, not only through her memories of the time that she spent with him, but also through the variety of letters that they sent to each other during their marriage. "an excellent biography" HistoryNet Mary Anna Jackson never remarried after Jackson's death and became known as the "Widow of the Confederacy" until she passed away fifty years after the end of the Civil War in 1915. She wrote two books on her husband. Life and Letters of General Thomas J. Jackson was first published in 1891.… (más)
