A boy scares/reassures his younger sister about various terrors and how he'll protect her, but the scare that materializes in the doorway is their dad, who they've woken up. ( ) An installment of Snowpocalypse 2011 Toddler Reading Reviews. [return] [return]Eh. This one didn't do much for me. I did like some of the initial illustrations, and the general concept wasn't too bad. If you want to introduce your kid to a lot of fantasy creatures and tell them that they're supposed to be scary, then this one serves well. (I don't think my 2-1/2 yo thought of witches, ghosts, etc., as "scary"; and certainly not skeletons!) This book surprised me. I opened the first page to discover that the lines were rhythmic. I was not expecting poetry, but that is what I got. It was nice. I had never read fantasy poetry. It was nothing extraordinary, nor did it look like it took years to craft, but it was witty and entertaining. This is a very good introductory book to the world of poetry. There is a similar pattern of words on every page, so it is easy to follow along with, and it would not intermediate the reader. In the book, the brother tells his sister to be quiet so that they do not wake their dad. She thinks there are ghost. He tries to calm her by saying if there are ghost, he will become something that would scare the ghost, or another entity would appear. Every time he introduces something, she says, "Oh no, not a _____." This goes on for quite some time until the dad wakes up and the book ends with, "Oh no, not Dad!"
