Let me just it now- this was solid FUN to read. I can honestly say I've never read a Young Adult book where the primary setting is a comic convention, so that made this book such a blast to read! I feel like comic con settings are so very ripe with opportunity for characters and conflict and plot, and that really came through in "Geeks Guide".

This is a relatively short read (about 250 pages) and I flew through it in a day, but enjoyed every moment. Yes, it was kind of cheesy (it's a boy-pursues-girl read) but I thought the relationship felt genuine and progressed in a way I could believe.

Also, I TOTALLY loved the female characters in this book. They each had strong interests, personalities, and voices, and it was very enjoyable reading them.
Again, I personally just had a lot of fun reading this. The writing is solid, nothing spectacular, but the plot and characters truly pulled me in to the story! ( )

This book is so sweet! I've read a few books lately about geeks that show sort of the underbelly: the feelings of anger and powerlessness and entitlement. And this book doesn't exactly ignore those things, but it also puts them into context. These people are just trying to figure out what they feel, and it's hard! Sometimes you're in love with your best friend, and when you tell her it's the greatest thing ever, and she's like me too! And sometimes when you tell her it's super awkward, and she feels hurt and lied to. And it's hard to know which is which. What I was struck by in this book was how warm and kind and understanding it was. There is so much respect here for these characters, and you end up liking them all immensely.

Graham decides to tell his best friend, Roxy, that he’s in love with her during NY Comic Con—but of course, nothing goes according to his plan. It’s a fun and geeky story (and a quick read), and I enjoyed it. ( )

Very quick, super cute read. Anyone who has ever been to a con will be able to feel right at home with this book. ( )

Graham and Roxy are partners. He supplies the words and she contributes the graphics. They've been Comic book friends for years and are now even working on a shared project. But Graham can't seem to find the words to tell Roxy that he's in love with her. So when they have a chance to go to Comic Con in NYC together, Graham promises himself that's when he'll let his feelings known. But Graham's plan goes wrong at Comic Con because Roxy soon seems more interested in Devin, a new friend she's just met at the weekend event.

Haven't we all at one time in our lives felt the pain of unrequited love? Sarvenaz Tash's novel is so touchingly on the mark that it's the best teen book I've read so far this year. ( )

Certainly everyone here—dressed up as aliens, and wizards, and zombies, and superheroes—wants desperately to be inside a story, to be part of something more logical and meaningful than real life seems to be. Because even worlds with dragons and time machines seem to be more ordered than our own. When you live for stories ... it sometimes feels like you're just stumbling through the rest of life, trying to divine meaningful narrative threads from the chaos. Which ... can be painfully fruitless. Fiction is there when real life fails you. But it's not a substitute.
Sometimes all we have is the knowledge that something extraordinary exists in the universe, even if we can't be the ones to claim it. Sometimes that has to be enough.
