This is a great little book for students to read, especially to learn where milk comes from or what dairy cows look like. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures in this book, particularly the way the cows are just laying around. Even though I grew up in the country and had milked cows before, this book informed me about a couple of things I did not realize about a dairy cow.
Extensions for this book would include how do we get milk, cheese, ice-cream and other dairy products? I would have my students retell the process in their own words or drawings. Another idea would be to draw the cow from the description in the book. I would read the page or two from the book and the students can draw what they think the cow looks like.
