I just finished reading this book tonight, and yes I only started reading it yesterday. That is just how good it was. I have always been fascinated by the Navajo Indians and to find that not only are the main characters part Navajo, the setting is close enough that there is interaction with The People, as well! As always, Sandra wrote a fantastic story that pulled me into it. How much? At one point one of the characters was dehydrated...and immediately I was thirsty and needed a drink. At another point one of them was in a distinctly dark and tight spot and I felt claustrophobic. There are twists and turns you never see coming, and through it all you learn about the area as well as history and beliefs of the people, while also getting a glimpse of what it means to have two distinct heritages and backgrounds.. Being a mixture brings with it its own conflicts, of which Sandra is superb at defining and resolving. This is definitely a keeper!
