All About Alligators, written and illustrated by Jim Arnosky, is an informational picture book for young readers. This book discusses what alligators eat, where they may live, the various sounds they make, their growth patterns, and how they may interact with humans. Jim Arnosky does an excellent job of clearly explaining the scientific information to young readers. The illustrations provided throughout the text are labeled, which helps facilitate a better understanding of each concept to the reader. This book tells readers all about alligators; where they live, what they eat, how big they are, and much more. Prior to reading this, I didn't know much about alligators, but I have been intrigued ever since I moved to Louisiana. One thing that I now know is that alligators have a third eyelid for seeing under water. Also, I can tell the difference between alligators and crocodiles thanks to the illustrations that showed me how crocodiles have a narrower snout. This book is great for a science lesson on reptiles, especially for students in Louisiana or other areas where alligators are prevalent. It will teach them all about alligators and the dangers that they may present to humans as well. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Originally published in 1994, All About Alligators was the first of what would eventually prove to be ten titles in Arnosky's All About series, highlighting different kinds of animals for the picture-book set. The text is simple but informative, and the accompanying watercolor artwork is appealing. My only criticism would be the absence of any list of sources and/or further reading. Leaving that aside, I'd recommend this one to young animal lovers and ecologists, from around four to eight years old. ( )
