Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

A con artist meets his end on a country roadâ??and a lot of swindled senior citizens are suspects: "Hilarious...a delightful debut."â??Joan Hess

Determined to make a new start in her quaint hometown on the banks of the Mississippi, Brandy Borne never dreams she'll become the prime suspect in a murder case. . .
Moving back in with her eccentric, larger-than-life mother, Brandy Borne finds small-town Serenity, Iowa, anything but serene. It seems an unscrupulous antiques dealer has swindled Vivian out of the family's heirlooms. But when he is found run over in a country lane, Brandy becomes Murder Suspect Number Oneâ??with her mother coming in a very close second. . .
The list of other suspects is impressiveâ??the victim's business seems to have been based on bilking seniors out of their possessions. And when the Borne "girls" uncover a few very unsavory Serenity secrets, they become targets for a murderer whose favorite hobby seems to be collecting victims.

Read the free Kindle edition, and while cozy little mysteries aren't my favorite, I enjoyed it. It was a quick entertaining read, I even bought the second in the series right after finishing it. The in depth clothes and brand rambling was annoying but not enough to make me give up on it. (I just skimmed over those sentences really really quickly). I found myself smiling at the humor and the main character was someone I liked. ( )

This was a kindle freebie and you get what you pay for. The formatting was atrocious and the author tried to hard to be funny, often falling flat. I was, however, ready to give the book 3 stars because it was a short easy read, but the ending was so lame. Just couldn't buy the murderer/motive. ( )

This was a fun book to read. I downloaded it for free for my kindle. I would read more in this series. I liked the main character, and I liked the antique shop settings and info. I didn't care too much for the mother, especially the one chapter that she narrated. ( )

Brandy returns home to live with her mother after getting a divorce. Her mother recently sold their house full of antiques for a pittance. When the crooked antiques dealer ends up dead Brandy decides to help the police solve the case. The characters weren't well developed and all Brandy's asides to the reader were really distracting. While parts were funny, I didn't appreciate the breaking of the 4th wall, the casual storytelling format, or the over the top antics of the main character. There are other cozy mystery series with wacky, female, sleuths who are less grating. ( )
