"Mad Men meets The Devil Wears Prada in this lively debut about a young woman working at the hippest ad agency in New York... So. You want to work in advertising. The glitz, the glamour, the cocktail-fueled brainstorming sessions and Xbox breaks. Sounds like a dream job, right? Wrong. The reality can be a nightmare. There are five simple rules for succeeding in the ad world--and I think I've already broken every single one... 1) Never let them see you cry. Even if your best friend breaks your heart. And posts it all over social media. 2) Be one of the boys. And, if you were born with the wrong equipment, flaunt what you've got to distract them while you get ahead. 3) Come up with the perfect pitch in an instant--or have your resume ready to go at all times. 4) Trust no one. Seriously. If you don't watch your back, they'll steal your ideas, your pride, even your stapler. 5) Most importantly, don't ever, under any circumstances, be a CopyGirl. Trust me. I know."--… (más)

As an advertising student, I really enjoy this read. It proved my teacher's saying about how fun (or ugly) it is working in a high-paced advertising agency. I think this book is more of a realistic fiction than a chick-lit. Every character in this book is not one dimensional and very realistic. You can love everyone in this, yet you can hate them for some things at the same time. The story also reflected the fact that women in offices do want to make it "big" beneath the men, but due to the construction of society and such, it must be done with a little bit of effort. Although some parts of the story may be a bit fantasy-ish (because this is fiction, right), this was a pleasant read with a great message. ( )

I never watched Mad Men but I did watch The Devil Wears Prada. I have to tell you that this book is not as funny or witty as Devil. Also, if this is what having a job in the advertising world is like then I am glad I don't work in this industry or would ever want to get a job in this industry. The men in this story came off as such egotistical jerks. Plus, I was not feeling Ben. The way he acted so childish made me want to scream. In the beginning, I found Kay to be a wallflower and I also found myself screaming at her to wake up and "grow a pair". As the story progressed, she did break out of her shell. I would award her the "most improved award".

My biggest disappointment with this book is that I was hoping to find myself laughing a lot throughout this book. This did not happen. There were a couple of moments but they were far and few between and I could count the many times on one hand. One moment that I did like was when Kay was describing her mother and she said "That woman does more prying than a fireman with a crowbar." Sadly, this book does not deliver on the Mad Men meets Devil Wears Prada. ( )

For those who think different

Sometimes you feel like a nut, but be all you can be, because a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Don't get mad, get glad.  When you take a licking, keep on ticking.

Have it your way and never follow.

You've come a long way, baby -- keep it good to the last drop.
