Nice to read Reyes' back story, although some of the stuff that happens to Reyes was tough to get through. ( )

If you're a fan of the Charlie Davidson series and were curious about Reyes' POV and his childhood, here it is, but we warned this is NOT a snarky, sarcastic narrative about being the son of satan. The narrative is raw, often graphic and almost never amusing. Most of the information it gives the reader were bits I'd already gathered from reading the full-length novels, and this narrative stops at the events that happen in (I think) book 3 or 4, but I think it's worth seeing the same events from Reyes' point of view.

The writing is, as always, excellent. The editing errors, as always (with novellas), are numerous. ( )

Very Dark backstory of Reyes, most is information we already know from the series but it is told from the POV of Reyes, hence the darkness. Without Charley to bring light to the story it's just not as enjoyable a read. ( )

Listened to audio narrated well by Lorelei King. Yes she did it again! Love listening to King, she brings the characters to life every time. Her narration makes listening effortless.

First off Ryes Alexander Farrow grew up in terrible conditions and was repeatedly abused by his 'father.' Some scenes will be difficult for sensitive readers, but it gives amazing insight to the things that have driven Reyes actions in this series.

'Brighter than the Sun' spans from before he was born and shows us Reyes life and driving forces up through 'First Grave on the Right' during his time in a coma. I can't believe Jones stopped there, I did NOT want this book to end, especially there!

I admit that some of Reyes life was hard to read, but I really appreciated being able to see what was going on behind the scenes from Reyes' perspective and finally understanding some of his actions.

I wish that I had been able to read this earlier in the series, even though it would have given away some big things about Charley. For spoiler reasons, reading it after the eight book is best but you may want to go back and re-read all the books after reading this one and if I had the time I would. I hope Jones will give us more books from Reyes point of view.

I'm curled up in a corner of the basement, shivering like a little bitch and licking my wounds from the latest encounter, when I hear my sister crying at the door.
