Even though I really wanted Maddie to end up with JB rather than Nathaniel, this was a fantastic ending to the story ( )

I've heard this is the last book in the series (sniff) and what a book it is. Maddy is still dealing with her rapidly progressing pregnancy when a whole new type of monster starts attacking her and her friends. This monster can send it's magic into the domicile, so no place is safe. Even whey the team is forced to attend the festivities for Lucifer's wedding, the monster finds a way into Lucifer's home. And as usual, Maddy is determined to take control and refuses to let anyone take a risk she is unwilling to take.

Black Wings I'm going to miss you. But I have to admit that Maddy desperately needed a break as did all her friends. This book ties everything up pretty well. I was surprised by a few twists along the way. I don't want to give anything away so let me just say this book ROCKS!!! ( )

This is the final book in the Madeline Black series by Henry. This was a very well done conclusion to this urban fantasy series. While this isn't my favorite urban fantasy series, it was still one I always enjoy reading.

Maddy is struggling through her pregnancy with her friends at her side when a strange announcement is made. The mayor of Chicago has decided that all supernatural beings need to be rounded up and put into camps. To add to this stressful news Maddy is being hunted by a strange type of shapeshifter, a huge tentacled monster, and that stupid blogger will not leave her secrets alone. Maddy finally turns to Daharan (her uncle) for help only to find he’s gone missing. Then the invitation to Lucifer’s wedding arrives...seriously could things get any weirder? All Maddy wants is to have her baby in peace.

This book ties up the series and does an excellent job leaving our characters is a decent place to live our their lives. There are some issues that aren't wrapped up and I am hoping there will be a spin off series of some sort. However our main heroine and the main plot are wrapped up nicely.

Both Maddy and Nathaniel have grown a lot throughout this series. Maddy has learned to accept her powers and learns even more about how to control them in this book. She has also learned how to accept help from friends and protect those she loves. Maddy has a history of pummeling things into submission, but in this book she is at her most vulnerable and is finally learning that going in with a bit of a plan and some strategy isn’t a bad thing.

Nathaniel was a real jerk at the beginning of this series but he has changed a lot. This book really doesn’t have much/any romance in it. However, Nathaniel and Maddy are trying to make some sort of relationship work. Nathaniel really grew on me; he is supportive, respectful, and genuinely tries to do what is right for Maddy and the baby. Sometimes what Nathaniel thinks is right doesn’t always match up with what Maddy think is right; but in this book they both learn how to compromise. Nathaniel has become an excellent character.

All of our old favorites are back as well. Beezle is just as hungry and funny as ever, JB is the King of Faerie and is fun to read about as well. I was impressed with how well Maddy’s household full of males dealt with her pregnancy and delivery.

The powerful brothers of Lucifer, Puck, Daharan, and Alerion are intriguing as always. These beings possess nearly infinite power and watching them struggle for the right to rule humanity is intriguing. There are a lot of unanswered questions about these brothers and I really hope that we see more of them in a future series.

Overall a very well done conclusion to this series. I have really enjoyed this urban fantasy series. There is a lot of action, wonderful characters, and some wonderful magic with an intriguing and fast-paced plot. I definitely recommend this series to fans of action-packed urban fantasy. ( )

BLACK HEART left Madeline without some of her allies and thankfully BLACK SPRING brings them all back together for the birth of Madeline's baby and the final showdown with Lucifer.

I have for the most part always enjoyed Madeline as a character, I don't really have much more to add about her that I haven't already said in previous reviews. She does a great job of keeping her baby safe in BLACK SPRING though. I was never a Nathaniel fan, but he has come a long way since we first met him and I don't despise him like I used to. Beezle is the perfect little sidekick. Love Daharan, I wish he came into the series sooner. I always liked J.B. and wish there would have been something a little more between him and Madeline, but I can totally respect them being just friends. Poor Samiel suffers a great loss in book 7, I am glad he was back with Maddy and the rest of the gang when it happened. Jude, not much to say about him, but he kicks butt and I'm glad Madeline has him on her side.

Now for the bad guys. I always knew Lucifer had ulterior motives, but never really understood what they were. He really is a piece of work and deserves everything he gets in BLACK SPRING and in his new future. Puck, ugh what more is there to say about him? I have always thought that everything he does is for his own gain even when others think its for them, BLACK SPRING proved I was right.

I'm not going to lie, after the last book I didn't think Henry was going to be able pull off a great ending for this series, but she did! I felt like Madeline was in a good place with great friends surrounding her. I also felt like Henry did a good job of ending the current storyline while leaving some things open for interpretation or maybe more books in the future? Who knows, one can only hope. Except for a few bumps in the road I really enjoyed the Black Wings series and I'm glad I've been able to follow it along as it was written. All urban fantasy fans should pick up

This is probably going to be a terrible review... Despite the time that has passed since I finished reading, I STILL can't compile my thoughts properly to do this book justice. Black Spring is one of those books that completely tears you in two. You don't want to put it down, but yet you don't want to keep reading because you know it will end...

My stomach was in knots for a lot of the book - in anticipation, in joy, in a bit of shock; and while the darkness & grit that I've come to relish in the last few books was still most definitely there, there was that awesome build up to the HEA we've all been waiting for as well.

Suspense, intrigue, action, subterfuge and character redemption combine to create one heck of a read.

I love the Black Wings series so very much - I have said it's one of my top 5 favorite UF series - & I will desperately miss this world & characters. While there hasn't been any definitive word that this was the last book of the series, it did feel like an ending to me. There's definite room for a spin off here though, & if this is indeed the end, I SO hope Christina gives us more some day. While I am anxiously chomping at the bit for Christina's new series, it will still be a sad, sad state of events now without my yearly BW release to look forward to.

I wholeheartedly recommend this series for all urban fantasy fans. I do, however, suggest reading the series in order for maximum enjoyment. The first few could probably be read as standalones, but you will enjoy the world and character interaction/development so much more if you read the series in order.

Christina Henry is a master storyteller, and Black Wings will hold strong as an upper echelon series for me. These characters and this world stay with me long after the most recent book is finished. If you haven't experienced Black Wings yet, take a chance! Black Spring just reinforced why these books hold a very special place in my heart. ( )
