"A Scottish Prisoner - Nothing means more to Scottish heiress Larena Campbell than saving her father from the gallows. While on an urgent mission to deliver his pardon from the King, she and her English escorts are attacked by a pair of fierce Scottish rebels. When she is dragged unconscious back to the stronghold of Angus the Lion, a powerful and dangerous Scottish laird, she is furious with her captors and determined to escape at any cost... Captor and Protector - Highland scout, Darach MacDonald, is suspicious of the beautiful and defiant heiress who clocked him in the head during the skirmish with the enemy Redcoats. He suspects she will stop at nothing to win her freedom. But when he is assigned the task of shepherding the heiress back to her home, he quickly discovers that spending countless nights on the open road with a lassie as temptingly beautiful as Larena Campbell is enough to drive any hot-blooded Scot mad with savage desire. Suddenly he is overcome by a need to claim her as his own, but when they arrive at her father's castle, all may not be what it seems..." -- back cover. I've now discovered that MacLean writes essentially the same female characters for all of her novels. Beautiful, brave heroins who only really demonstrate their beauty, rather than their bravery. They're sassy but submissive and at some point in the story, they generally hit the hero over the head with a rock.
I find that this book did more 'telling' as opposed to showing, which was a little bit disappointing. This book was really plot-heavy and yet the plot would be snuffed out rather rapidly. I wanted to see more plot, I think.
(More plot in a romance novel? Lydia, you're crazy. What are you, some kind of discerning romance novel reader now?)
Ugh I have such mixed feelings. This book did exactly what I wanted it to (help me de-stress, sleep better and relax) but this book just sagged for me.
I think it's time I took a break from MacLean's books, binge-reading four in a row was probably an overdose.
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT SEXUALLY-OBJECTIFIED SCOTSMEN in the saga to decrease Lydia's uni stress. ( )
