This is an Icelandic folktale, about a prince who is kidnapped by trolls, and the king sends all of his strongest and wisest men to find the prince. A peasant girl goes looking for him, and she finds the prince. They decided when they return to the kingdom, the peasant girl will take half the kingdom and the king had promised to whoever found his son, and she would help the poor so they don't have to work so hard. When the prince and the peasant girl return, the king has to give up his kingdom as promised, and the girl and the prince get married. This is a good example of a folktale, because it's a story that has been told in Iceland for years. I also really like this story, because it's a girl saving a prince for once, rather than a prince saving a girl. This would be a fun story to use during a folktale unit.
