Thomas Jennings arrives to his newly acquired estate to find that his steward has fled under a cloud of scandal, and the property has been held together by Miss Loris Tanner, the steward's daughter. Thomas knows what it's like to not fit in, and he's pragmatic enough to respect results, so he gives Loris a chance to maintain her position in a profession uniformly undertaken by men. Thomas learns about the complexities of estate management from his unlikely tutor, despite somebody's attempts to drive him off his own land. Mishaps turn into near tragedies, while between Thomas and Loris, respect and liking grow into attraction. Who is sabotaging Thomas's estate, and what choices will Loris face when the malefactor has been revealed?… (más)

A lovely story. I did sorta tune out towards the end - it got a little long winded for me, but overall I loved the characters and the plot. ( )

I've read other of the Jaded Gentlemen series and enjoyed them, although as I read this and [b:David: Lord of Honor|17854305|David Lord of Honor (Lonely Lords, #9)|Grace Burrowes|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1380477305s/17854305.jpg|42447649] made an appearance, I remembered being put off by Letty's secrecy and stubbornness. David and Letty put in an appearance in this story, and the reader gets a peek at upcoming "jaded gentlemen," but I'm afraid this is the last in this series that I will read.

Overall, the story was good - don't get me wrong. Especially into the second half of the novel. I appreciated the intrigue and the guessing at secret identities. That was well done, and the reveal was very satisfying. What put me off was the similarity to other characters in her other novels. It's the same unorthodox job for a woman that she's fighting society to do, and the perverse way she says "you have to stop kissing me" after a peck on the head and he proceeds to kiss the rest of her face until he takes an actual kiss. Then she pats his erection! That's not usually the way you say no... which brings me to his seduction of her. The old "I'm not going to dishonor you" while he frees the beast and does everything but.

If this had been the first I'd read in this series, I might have enjoyed it more, but after reading a couple of them, it seemed like the same old thing. ( )

Now that all the Lonely Lords have been taken off the marriage mart, I’m more than ready for the Jaded Gentlemen series! Bring them on Madam Author!

Our first jaded gentleman is Thomas and he is such a good, honest and decent man. What I loved about him was his decisiveness. He knew what he wanted and had no problem expressing it or going after it.

As for the heroine, I loved that she was smart and capable of doing anything that came her way. Oh, and I loved the outward fearlessness she displayed.

As usual, Grace Burrowes takes her time in unfolding her tale to me and that’s what keeps me coming back to every story she writes. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate an author that takes her time in developing not just her characters, but their romance as well.

If you’ve never read this author, and you appreciate a story with solid plot and realistic characters, you have to try her books, and since this is the first in this series, you may as well pick this one up. I promise you that you’ll love it!

Same style, plot and writing as the Lonely Lords series. If this is your first book by the author, its not bad but if you've read the Lonely Lords then you've already read this book. Miss Burrowes is becoming too predictable for me (the way Stephanie Laurens became a decade ago). Probably my last book by this author. ( )

I love all Grace Burrowes regency historicals, but there were times when reading this book that I felt I had read it before. Thomas and Loris were likeable enough but I could see the story coming a mile away. Luckily Ms. Burrowes writing still draws me in and I was glad that David, Beckman and Nicholas from previous books had a part here. And I always perk up at any mention of the Windhams. So I still enjoyed it, but I'm looking forward to Matthew's book with Thomas's sister. ( )
