I liked reading the fantasy children’s book, Franklin and Harriet. One reason I enjoyed it is because of the plot. Although the story involves personification because animals are talking and acting like humans, the plot is still logical and seems real. Franklin becomes a big brother and tries to make his sister happy with his toy dog, but then his sister wants the toy dog for herself. Many siblings experience sharing problems, so even though the characters are fictional, the story line relates to children. Also, Franklin stories always begin with, “Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes.” I love how the author uses the same language or a repeated phrase that rhymes for the beginning of every story. This is a great way to hook the reader, especially small children because they remember how it begins and can easily read it. This book’s message is that even though we might not want to, it is important to always be kind and share. Franklin is developing a relationship with his younger sister and hides his dog, so she will not take it from him anymore. He then realizes that the dog is what makes her happy, so if she is happy from playing with it then he is happy sharing it with her. I always enjoyed watching the television series Franklin when I was younger, but I would also recommend the books. ( )
