Cool illustrations ( ) True story: my daughter and I read this and within an hour it started snowing. This book is obviously magic. It's also a little too abstract and flowery for my taste. My kid is still a toddler so she just wanted to look at pictures of snowflakes. She did not follow the story in the pictures about the mom pilot being grounded by the snow. But I really liked the note at the end about invocations and the power of words. This book would be a great writing prompt for students to write their own invocations. Beth Krommes' illustration style is not my favorite, but I can see how it has appeal. She is a Caldecott winner, so obviously at least 15 people really dig her. "Before Morning" tells a story of a young child who wishes for a snowy day that will keep their mother home from work. I thought this book had very beautiful and detailed illustrations. The words and comparisons makes it easy for readers to create a mental picture.I found myself relating to the story and remembering what is was like to wish for snow days when I was young. This book is written as an invocation. The child in the poem is hoping for a snow day the next morning. The night before she wishes for snow to come the next day. Her wish for the snow day will allow things to slow down and for her family to spend time together. The illustrations are beautifully detailed. The poem is simple, yet effective. I think all children who have ever wished for a snow day will love this book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
