"Crawford Hunt wants his daughter back. Following the death of his wife four years ago, Crawford, a Texas Ranger, fell into a downward spiral that left him relegated to deskwork and with his five-year-old daughter Georgia in the custody of her grandparents. But Crawford has cleaned up his act, met all the court imposed requirements, and now the fate of his family lies with Judge Holly Spencer. Holly, ambitious and confident, temporarily occupies the bench of her recently deceased mentor. With an election upcoming, she must prove herself worthy of making her judgeship permanent. Every decision is high-stakes. Despite Crawford's obvious love for his child and his commitment to being an ideal parent, Holly is wary of his checkered past. Her opinion of him is radically changed when a masked gunman barges into the courtroom during the custody hearing. Crawford reacts instinctually, saving Holly from a bullet. But his heroism soon takes on the taint of recklessness. The cloud over him grows even darker after he uncovers a horrifying truth about the courtroom gunman and realizes that the unknown person behind the shooting remains at large . . .and a threat. Catching the real culprit becomes a personal fight for Crawford. But pursuing the killer in his customary diehard fashion will jeopardize his chances of gaining custody of his daughter, and further compromise Judge Holly Spencer, who needs protection not only from an assassin, but from Crawford himself and the forbidden attraction between them" --… (más)

Such a good mystery/love plot.

I've read many of her books in the past and not sure if it was just her romances or mysteries too but it's been a while for both.

She didn't disappoint me this time either. ( )

DNF! I read 230 pages of the book and found myself just disliking the story and the character more and more. I especially didn't like Crawford Hunt the main asshole, eh I mean the main character. Personally I found him to be unstable, violent and extremely jealous and possessive but apparently judge Holly likes that. I don't.

But enough is enough, now I will find something better to read...

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!> ( )

Couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Things just kept going from bad to worse for our poor protagonist. Crawford was a well developed character. You saw him being badass, being sexy with the heroine and loving towards his daughter. There was a lot of action which was all explained well so you never lost track of what was going on. There were characters to hate (I'm talking about you, Neal and Joe) and characters to love. The book took place over less than a week but that is normal for this sort of a story. So obviously there was some insta lust at the very least but it was well done enough that I was willing to buy into it. SB just writes some good stuff now that she's doing mystery/romantic suspense. I liked the heroine too but the main focus of the story was on Crawford which worked well for me. The epilogue was great. I'm glad SB didn't wimp out on the Joe story. ( )

This may be the first CD book I listened to and wish I had gotten a book instead. I just did not like the narrator's voice. The mystery and story was good. This was my first Sandra Brown "book". ( )

The two stalwart highway patrolmen guarding he barricade stared at her without registering any emotion, but because of the media blitz of the past few days, she knew they recognized her and that, in spite of their implacable demeanor, they were curious to know why Judge Holly Spencer was angling to get closer to the scene of a bloodbath.
